Lugo's Walkoff Sends IU Southeast Past CCU

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Nicholas Lugo's 10th-inning double sent the Grenadiers to a series-opening win over Cincinnati Christian on Friday.

IU Southeast (13-6, 4-0 RSC) fell behind in the top of the first when Jared Seibert reached on a error and later scored when Zach Bobbitt grounded into a double play.

The Grenadiers tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Richard Rodriguez singled, stole second and scored on an error.

Andre Christopher's RBI single in the 5th gave the Eagles the lead back but IU Southeast answered in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Warmath singled to score Santrel Farmer.

Andre Christopher gave the Eagles the lead once again in the 7th with another RBI single but IU Southeast tied it quickly in the bottom of the inning when Rodriguez doubled to score Jordan Branz.

In the bottom of the 10th, Brody Tanksley and Rodriguez each struck out and then Daniel Brescia walked. Nicholas Lugo followed with a game-winning double to right-center to score Brescia from first.

Richard Rodriguez had two hits in the win and starter Ryne Underwood worked nine innings but was saddled with a no-decision. Andrew Yates (2-1) got the win in relief.

IU Southeast hosts a doubleheader with CCU Saturday at 2 p.m.
