Grenadiers Complete Sweep of CCU Saturday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Cincinnati Christian on Saturday with 10-5 and 5-2 wins.

In game one, Cincinnati Christian took the lead in the top of the first when Bradley Brown singled to left.

IU Southeast (15-6, 6-0 RSC) tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Reyni Olivero walked, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.

The Grenadiers took the lead in the bottom of the second. Drew Hensley brought in Santrel Farmer with a great bunt base hit. He later scored on a sacrifice fly from Richard Rodriguez.

IU Southeast added another pair of runs in the fourth when Rodriguez hit another sacrifice fly and then Korbin Williams hit a RBI double to score Nicholas Lugo who had singled and then stole second.

Cody Maloon added to lead in the sixth when he doubled to left to score Williams from first,

The Grenadiers padded their lead with a three-run seventh and they were aided by four Eagle errors in the inning.

Brandon Nylin (3-0) earned the with seven strong innings of work. He gave up one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out 11.

Drew Hensley and Korbin Williams each went 3-for-4 in the contest.

In game two, CCU struck first once again with a pair of runs in the first inning. Tanner Leenknecht attempted to throw down to first to pick off Zach Bobbitt, but the throw was wild and Andre Christopher and Bobbitt were able to come around to score.

Cody Maloon tied the game in the third with a two-run double.

He came through again in the fifth to bring in the go-ahead runs. Nicholas Lugo walked and advanced to third on Korbin Williams' single. Williams advanced to second the throw. Cody Maloon followed with a two-run single to center. Jordan Branz added onto the lead with a RBI triple to right-center to score Farmer. He finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI and Jordan Branz had two hits as well.

Jack Wohlert (4-1) worked five innings to get the win. He allowed two unearned runs, on three hits. He walked one and struck out six. Andrew Yates earned his second save of the year.

IU Southeast travels to the University of Rio Grande next Friday and Saturday for a crucial conference series.
