Softball Sweeps Asbury Friday

WILMORE, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team extended its winning streak to five games with 9-3 and 9-1 wins at Asbury on Friday.

In game one, the Grenadiers scored in every inning but the third. Leadoff hitter Kyndyl Olds went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI.

Justice Kline, Clara Shean and Lindsey Keen each had two RBI.

Kyndyl Olds led off the game with a triple to center and later scored on a RBI groundout by Kline.

Asbury (7-7, 2-2 RSC) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning but IU Southeast came back with a pair in the top of the second.

Ashtyn Sharp walked and later scored on a RBI groundout by Shean and Emily Weiss singled and scored on a RBI single from Keen.

Asbury tied the game in the third before IU Southeast took the lead for good in the fifth with a pair of runs.

Sydney Seger brought in Keen on a sacrifice fly and Justice Kline got a sacrifice bunt down to score Olds.

iU Southeast (8-8, 4-0 RSC) added three runs in the sixth to blow the game open.

Emily Weiss (5-3) worked a complete game, and gave up three runs, two earned on five hits. She struck out seven and walked two.

In game two, the Grenadiers opened the game with a four-run first inning. Justice Kline hit a two-run single to center to score Olds and Seger who had both singled. RBI singles from Maggle Lubbehusen and Weiss made it 4-0.

A pair of runs scored in the second on an error by shortstop Juliann Kirby.

IU Southeast tacked on three runs in the fifth when Sydney Seger hit a two-run double and Lubbehusen hit a sac fly.

Becca Schoenung got the complete game win. She worked five innings and gave up one run on three hits. She walked one and struck out three.

Every Grenadier in the batting order had at least one hit. Sydney Seger went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Olds added two more hits.
