NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast bats scored 22 runs on 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Brescia University on Friday afternoon. The Grenadiers defeated Brescia 14-6 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
In game one, the Bearcats pushed across four runs in the opening inning before the Grenadiers tied it in the bottom of the frame.
Sydney Seger opened the scoring with a RBI single and Maggie Lubbehusen with a two-run single. Clara Shean added a RBI single later in the inning to tie the game.
Sydney Seger gave the Grenadiers a short-lived lead in the bottom of the second when she hit a RBI double to left-center to score Ashtyn Sharp who had singled.
But Brescia (3-9, 1-7 RSC) would scratch across a pair in the third with two outs. After Cassie Moss was hit, Lily Jones doubled to left to bring her in. Brooklyn Hall followed with a RBI single to give the Bearcats a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Grenadiers loaded the bases and a wild throw home by third baseman Lanie Oden allowed two runs to score. Ashtyn Sharp came through with a two-run single to give the Grenadiers a 9-6 lead.
IU Southeast tacked on five runs in the fifth to run rule the Bearcats.
Emily Weiss (6-4) got the complete game win.
Ashtyn Sharp went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Kyndyl Olds scored four runs and Clara Shean had three hits and two RBI and Sydney Seger went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, Becca Schoenung and Morgan Keefer combined on a four-hit shutout.
The Grenadiers (12-10, 8-2 RSC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Maggie Lubbehusen tripled to right to bring in Sharp and Seger and then she scored on a RBI single from Justice Kline.
A wild pitch made it 4-0 in the second when Kaitlyn Flowers scored and the Grenadiers added a pair of runs in the third.
Justice Kline and Lindsey Keen both scored on wild pitches.
The game ended when Cassie Keen misplayed Lindsey Keen's grounder to third and then unleashed a wild throw which allowed Sharp and Lubbehusen to score.
Sharp, Lubbehusen, Kline and Flowers each had two hits and Lubbehusen drove in three.
