Grenadiers Roll Past SMWC, Move To 7-0

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team cruised past St. Mary-of-the-Woods 25-8, 25-18, 25-19 on Thursday in the 2018 home opener for the Grenadiers. Every Grenadier who was available played at least one set for IU Southeast.

The Grenadiers (7-0) opened the match with a 17-3 run in the first set, including a 7-0 run that broke the first set wide open.

IU Southeast held the Pomeroys to just three kills in the first set and four in the second. The Grenadiers had 49 kills in the contest, including 17 apiece in the opening two sets.

Alyssa Cosgrove had a match-high 11 kills and Monica Loftus added 10. They combined for just four errors in the match. IU Southeast had just 10 attack errors in the contest.

Three Grenadiers had double-figure assists: Hannah Sipe had 17, Cosgrove had 11 and Sarah Turner had 10.

The Grenadiers trailed 14-12 in the second set before closing the frame on a 13-4 run. Freshman Delaney Nichols sparked the comeback with two aces and three kills for five of the 13 points.

The third set was close until IU Southeast pulled away with a 10-4 run to make the score 21-14. The Pomeroys cut the to 21-18 but freshman Trinae' Love put the Grenadiers back in a comfortable advantage with a kill and then an ace. Love had two kills, two aces and a solo block and a block assist.

IU Southeast hosts defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
