NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team dropped a tight three-set decision to IU Kokomo 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 on Tuesday.
The Grenadiers (12-4, 1-2 RSC) started off strong and led the opening set 16-10 before the Cougars exploded on a 15-2 run to win the set.
The Grenadiers rebounded and led the second set 12-9 before a couple of IU Kokomo blocks and an attack error tied the match. The rest of the set was very close but back-to-back attack errors by the Grenadiers gave the Cougars set point and Nyssa Baker was able to convert on a kill to give IU Kokomo a two-set advantage.
The Cougars (14-4, 5-0 RSC) opened the third set by scoring nine of the first ten points. IU Southeast would cut the lead to two points (23-21) on an ace from Hannah Sipe, but the Grenadiers would not get closer.
Monica Loftus had 15 kills and Lindsey Howell added seven for IU Southeast. The Grenadiers committed 24 attack errors to the Cougars' 15 in the match.
The Grenadiers host Cincinnati Christian Friday at 7 p.m.
