NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2018 season Tuesday, falling to fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson in four sets.
The Grenadiers (7-1) fell 25-22, 25-10, 22-25, 25-16.
Alyssa Cosgrove led IU Southeast with 11 kills and added 15 assists while Monica Loftus added 10. Jennie Malone had six kills, two solo blocks and three block assists.
The three-headed attack of the Blue Raiders was the difference as LWC moved to 9-2 on the season. Sarah Cruz had a match-high 17 kills, Paulina Sobolewska had 12 and Elly Burke added 10.
The first set was tied at 14 before Lindsey Wilson scored six of the next seven points to take a commanding lead. IU Southeast cut the lead to 21-20 behind two Loftus kills and three errors but the Grenadiers could not pull even.
The second set saw Lindsey Wilson open the frame with a 10-3 lead and the Grenadiers could not recover until the third set.
In the third, the set was tight throughout until the Grenadiers capitalized on two attack errors, one was off of a Malone block. Halle Snyder followed a LWC kill with one of her own and Alyssa Cosgrove would record two kills in the final three points to take the set.
In the fourth set, IU Southeast trailed 13-10 and then Lindsey Wilson pulled away by scoring 12 of the next 18 points to secure the win.
IU Southeast travels to Richmond, Ind. for the Earlham College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
