NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A balanced offense helped lead IU Southeast to a sweep of Point Park 25-18, 25-19,25-20 on Saturday.
Alyssa Cosgrove, Parker Andres and Lindsey Howell each had eight kills for the Grenadiers. Alexis Bassett had seven kills and two blocks and Makendri Fisher had five kills and a block.
The Grenadiers (15-4, 5-1 RSC) led 15-14 in a tight first set before closing the set on a 10-4 run. Jennie Malone recorded three of the final four points when she recorded a kill, then a block and another kill.
In the second set, IU Southeast never surrendered the lead as they were sparked by Hannah Sipe who recorded an ace to start a 4-0 run to start the set.
The Pioneers (13-5, 3-2 RSC) would not go away quietly however as they cut the lead to 20-19. But IU Southeast responded with a 5-0 run to end the set. The Grenadiers were aided by two attack errors and a set error along with a kill by Makendri Fisher to take the second set.
In the third set, IU Southeast could not pull away from Point Park but they never trailed. The Grenadiers led 20-19 before closing the match on a 5-0 run. Alexis Bassett had two kills in the final five points.
Hannah Sipe had 20 assists to go along with four kills and Alyssa Cosgrove added 18 assists and 10 digs while Kenna Burman had 24 digs to lead the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast hosts Spalding University Tuesday at 6 p.m.
