MIDWAY, Ky. – Alyssa Cosgrove had 19 kills and Alexis Bassett added 15 as IU Southeast defeated Midway 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 25-16 on Saturday to conclude the 2019 regular season.

IU Southeast (24-6, 13-3 RSC) led for most of the first set before the Eagles took the lead at 23-21. After a service error cut the lead to one, Cosgrove and Jennie Malone had back-to-back kills to force set point and an attack error by Midway ended the first set.

The Grenadiers fell behind early in the second set but continued to battle back when the set seemed to be slipping away. The largest lead in the set was four points for the Eagles but the Grenadiers rallied multiple times to keep it close. There were 10 ties in the second set alone.

With the score tied at 21, the Eagles recorded four of the last five points to take the set and three out of the four points were off of Grenadier errors.

In the third and fourth sets IU Southeast did a much better job of gaining leads and were able to put the sets away rather than let Midway hang around in either set.

The Grenadiers pulled away quickly in the third set leading 10-5. They used a 12-6 run to take a commanding 22-11 lead. A kill by Malone and two Eagle service errors gave the Grenadiers a two sets to one lead.

In the fourth set, the Grenadiers led 10-8 and then pulled away to 20-12. Delaney Nichols had three of her six kills during the last eight points scored by IU Southeast to put the match out of reach.

Hannah Sipe had 50 assists and Brookelyn Clark led IU Southeast with three aces. Parker Andres chipped in with nine kills and Delaney Nichols added six.

IU Southeast will head to the River States Conference Volleyball Championship on Nov. 15 and 16 at Point Park University in Pittsburgh.

Tournament information will be released by the conference this weekend.
