MIDWAY, Ky. – Jamie Johnson recorded the first triple-double at IU Southeast since February of 2010 and IU Southeast led by as many as 31 points in the first half to defeat Midway 95-87.
Johnson had 21 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the win. Each IU Southeast starter scored in double figures. Kerry Smith had 20 points, David Burton had 19 points and seven rebounds, Lukas Burkman had 14 points and Blake Murphy added 12 points for IU Southeast.
Johnson's triple-double is the first for the IU Southeast men's basketball program since DeJon Gary had 12 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds vs Alice Lloyd College on February 16, 2010.
The Grenadiers (19-8, 12-4 RSC) led 34-9 to open the game. Midway (12-14, 5-11 RSC) did not break into double-figures until the 10:09 mark of the first half.
IU Southeast hit five of their eight first-half three-pointers in the opening six minutes of the game to open the huge lead. The Grenadiers led 52-30 at halftime.
In the second half, Midway got its offense going but the deficit was too much to overcome. They outscored the Grenadiers 57-43 in the second half and cut the lead to 93-87 with 25 seconds left but could not get closer.
IU Southeast dominated the Eagles in the paint 53-34 in the game. The Grenadiers shot 54 percent from the field in the contest.
IU Southeast travels to IU Kokomo with the division lead on the line Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
