IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader With Kentucky Christian

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split doubleheader with Kentucky Christian Friday, taking game one 10-2 and falling 9-4 in game two.

In game one, the Grenadiers fell behind 2-0 before putting seven runs on the board in the fourth inning.

The Grenadiers (4-2) loaded the bases on three-straight walks to open the inning. Lindsey Keen followed with an RBI single to open the scoring as Justice Kline scored. Miranda Miller followed with a two-run single and Kyndyl Olds drove in two on a double and Sydney added an RBI double.

Morgan Keefer led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple to left-center. Miller brought her in on a RBI single and after a walk to Ashtyn Sharp, Seger ended the game with a two-run double to left-center.

Emily Weiss (3-0) worked all five innings for the win. She allowed two runs on three, walked one and struck out four.

Miranda Miller had two hits and drove in three in the win. Sydney Seger and Kyndyl Olds each had two hits and drove in two.

In game two, IU Southeast opened the scoring when Sydney Seger hit a two-run double off of the top of the fence in right-center field. She would score on a RBI single from Kaitlyn Flowers.

Kentucky Christian (1-1) tied the game with a run in the second and then a pair of runs in the third. In the third inning, back-to-back double from Katerina Anthony and Jade Spurlock brought the Knights within one. Then Spurlock scored on a RBI groundout from Taylor Jording.

The Knights blew the game open in the fifth and six innings with three runs scored in each.

Becca Schoenung (1-2) took the loss in four and a third innings of work. She gave up six runs on four hits, walked five and struck out two. Kyndyl Olds had two hits in the loss.

The game was called after six innings due to darkness. IU Southeast hosts No. 15 St. Francis (Ill.) Sunday at 2 p.m.
