NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball dropped a pair of games to Grace College Monday, 5-2 and 5-1.
In game one, the Lancers (2-0) scored first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Kaurich.
IU Southeast (4-4) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Flowers scored on error by the shortstop Olivia Scarbrough and Sydney Seger scored when Miranda Miller drew a bases loaded walk.
The Lancers took the lead for good in the top of the second. Andrea Castillo singled and then scored on a base hit from Sam Heim. Heim scored when Morgan Keefer misplayed the ball in left.
Grace College would tack on two more runs in the fifth. Emily Weiss (3-1) took the loss. She gave five runs, three earned, on five hits. She walked two and struck out four. Weiss became the Grenadiers' career innings pitched leader in the contest.
Kyndyl Olds and Reecie Gilliam each had two hits in the loss.
In game two, the Grenadiers could not get anything going offensively. They trailed 1-0 before a three-run fifth inning put the game away. Scarbrough singled to center to plate two runs and she later scored on Morgan Tapsscott's double.
Becca Schoenung worked four and two thirds and took the loss.
IU Southeast hosts Taylor University Wednesday at 2 p.m.
