IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader With William Penn

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team split a doubleheader with William Penn University taking game one 5-4 and dropping game two 7-5.

In game one, the contest was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Statesmen put four runs on the board. Seth Reisbeck singled and then scored on a dropped fly ball by Santrel Farmer. Boston Romero added a two-run double and Blaze Speas singled to right to bring in Romero.

IU Southeast (6-4) plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Dalton Drexler scored on a balk and Jordan Branz hit a RBI triple to cut the lead in half.

The Grenadiers tied the game in the seventh when Branz doubled to bring in Dalton Mitchell and then Farmer singled to score Branz.

The game would remain tied until the ninth when IU Southeast came through with a two-out rally to win it. Daunte Decello walked and stole second and then Derek Wagner's single to left won the game for the Grenadiers.

Kyle Hawkins got the win in one and third innings of relief. Jordan Branz had two hits and drove in two in the win.

In game two, IU Southeast fell behind 5-1 after two innings. They cut into the lead with two runs in the third and one run each in the fifth and sixth to trail 6-5. Ben Berenda reached on an error to give Brody Tanksley a chance to tie the game but he grounded out to second.

John Ullom had two hits in the loss. Zach Edger went 3-for-4 for the Statesmen.

IU Southeast concludes the series with William Penn with a doubleheader Tuesday beginning at noon.
