IU Southeast Splits Series With William Penn

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU Southeast concluded its series with William Penn Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader and the series. IU Southeast defeated the Statesmen 12-1 in game one before falling 11-3.

In game one, took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Derek Wagner hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Clay Woeste and Brody Tanksley had an RBI single to score Daniel Brescia.

The Grenadiers (7-5) broke the game open with back-to-back three run innings in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Brescia scored on a wild pitch and then Tanksley hit a two-run single to bring in Wagner and Cody Maloon.

In the fifth, Daunte Decello was hit by a pitch and later scored on a squeeze play Woeste. Derek Wagner drove in Jordan Branz and Clay Woeste with two-run single.

Brenden Bube recorded his first collegiate win as he worked five innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits. He walked one and struck out four. Brody Tanksley had three hits and drove in three and Jordan Branz hit his first home run of the season to left to extended the lead to 12-1 in the sixth.

In game two, the Statesmen put a seven-run inning up in the fourth inning to put the game away. IU Southeast got two runs back in the fourth when John Ullom recorded a two-run single but the Grenadier offense was stifled in the second game of the day. Ullom had two hits in the loss.

IU Southeast hosts Indiana Wesleyan for a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
