NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team used a 15-2 first half run to pull away from Asbury and defeated the Eagles 89-74.
Jamie Johnson had 22 points to lead IU Southeast and Lukas Burkman had 17 points. Nick Tinsley had 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Kerry Smith and David Burton each added 11 points.
The IU Southeast offense was effective throughout the contest as the Grenadiers shot 55 percent from the field in the game and 63 percent in the second half alone.
After using the 15-2 run to pull away, the Grenadiers saw their lead cut to nine before they took a 35-25 lead to halftime.
In the second half, Asbury cut the lead to 45-38 but they would not get closer. Jamie Johnson had 13 of his 22 points in the second half and David Burton added 11 second-half points to keep the Eagles from cutting into the lead.
An 11-4 run by the Grenadiers put the game out of reach. Johnson hit a three and Smith and Tinsley each had field goals during the run.
Trenton Thompson had 24 points for the Eagles in the loss.
IU Southeast hosts Brescia Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on Senior Night.
