NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team pushed its winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep of Point Park on Saturday, winning 5-2 and 4-3 in nine innings.
In game one, IU Southeast struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kaitlyn Flowers singled and later scored on a wild pitch. Maggie Lubbehusen singled and scored on a RBI single from Lindsey Keen.
Point Park got a run back in the top of the second when Courtney Blocher hit a RBI single to right to bring in Taylor Goldstrohm.
The Grenadiers (9-11, 3-1 RSC) answered with a run in the third when Flowers singled, stole second and scored on a RBI single from Lubbehusen.
After Point Park (4-11, 1-3 RSC) got within a run in the top of the fifth, IU Southeast responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Morgan Keefer singled and scored on a RBI double by Lubbehusen. Reecie Gilliam, who was running for Lubbehusen, scored on a error by third baseman Amber Cook.
Emily Weiss (5-5) gave up two runs on five hits in a complete-game win. She walked two and struck out six.
Maggie Lubbehusen went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the win and Flowers had two hits.
In game two, no one could open the scoring until the fifth when Point Park scratched across a run. Maddie Horn singled and scored on a double from Blocher.
They would add two more runs in the sixth. Hailey Leitner doubled to bring in Goldstrom who had doubled and Chandler Krelow singled to score Leitner.
The Grenadiers scored once in the bottom of the inning when Sydney Seger tripled to score Miranda Miller.
IU Southeast tied the game in the seventh when Morgan Keefer singled to right to score Gilliam and then Lindsey Keen bunted and Kyndyl Olds slid home ahead of the throw.
Point Park had two runners on in the eighth with one out but Becca Schoenung was able to get Shannon Davis and Krelow to pop out and fly out, respectively.
In the bottom of the ninth, Keefer walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sydney Seger singled to left to score Keefer and complete the sweep.
Becca Schoenung (3-5) worked seven and a third innings for the win. She gave up two runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out five.
Morgan Keefer and Reecie Gilliam went 3-for-4 and Kyndyl Olds and Seger each had two hits.
IU Southeast hosts Midway University Friday at 2 p.m.
