Vienna, W.Va - The IU Southeast softball team defeated Point Park 8-3 before falling 13-0 to Rio Grande on Friday. The Grenadiers will play at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the loser's bracket final.
In the tournament opener for the Grenadiers against Point Park, the Grenadiers opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Three-straight singles scored Kyndyl Olds, Justice Kline got down a perfect sacrifice squeeze bunt to allow Lindsey Keen to score and Maddie Probus doubled to score Baylee Krueger.
The Grenadiers (29-22) put the game away with a three-run fourth inning. After a RBI groundout by Keen, a two-run single by Krueger made it 6-1.
That was enough for Emily Weiss (15-12), who worked six inning and gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits. She walked one and struck out three.
Kyndyl Olds had three hits and scored two runs and Schoeung had two hits.
Against Rio Grande, the Grenadiers fell behind 6-0 after the first inning. The RedStorm scored six runs on four hits in the inning.
The winner of the loser's bracket final at 11 a.m. will earn the River States Conference's second automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament as Rio Grande has earned a bid as regular season champion.
