Grenadiers Drop Match To IU East

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team returned to action Saturday, falling to IU East 25-18, 25-20, 25-21.

Alexis Bassett had 10 kills to lead the Grenadiers. Hannah Miller added seven, Delaney Nichols had six and Jennie Malone added five in the loss.

The Grenadiers (4-4, 4-4 RSC) hit .092 for the match and committed 29 total errors and recorded 29 kills. Six service errors short-circuited the Grenadier offense.

In the first set, the Grenadiers hit .-.043 and had nine errors to seven kills in the set. They cut the defict to 18-16 but the Red Wolves closed the period on a 7-2 run.

The Grenadiers trailed 17-15 in the second set before the Red Wolves used a 7-3 run to earn set point. Four of the seven points came on kills from Jessica Swimm and Sophie Rogers. A kill from Teah Barrett Matthews won the set for IU East.

The Grenadiers led the third set 14-10 but IU East roared back on a 13-4 run to take a 23-18 lead. The Red Wolves (9-0, 8-0 RSC) hit .382 in the final frame and had a match high 18 kills in the third set.

Jessica Swimm had 11 kills and Lexi Gentry added 10 to lead IU East.

Hannah Sipe had 28 assists and Kenna Burman added 11 digs to lead the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast hosts IU Kokomo Tuesday at 7 p.m.
