Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Abigail Vogel had 10 kills and Jennie Malone added nine to lead IU Southeast past Brescia 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 on Saturday.
The Grenadiers (5-6, 5-5 RSC) hit. .256 in the match and got off to a great start, hitting .344 in the first set.
IU Southeast led 7-5 after consecutive kills by Vogel and used a 6-2 run to open a comfortable advantage. The Grenadiers led by as many as eight points in the first period of play and forced set point on a set error and won the set on a service error. Abigail Vogel had five kills in the opening set for the Grenadiers.
In the second set, IU Southeast led 10-5 before pulling away by scoring 10 of the next 15 points to take a 20-10 lead. Four-straight errors by Bearcats forced set point and a kill by Hannah Sipe ended the frame.
The third set had 10 ties as neither side was able to pull away. IU Southeast took a 21-18 lead on two kills from Malone and an attack error by the Bearcats. Back-to-back kills by Hannah Miller and Abigail Vogel increased the lead to 23-19. After a kill by Brescia's Melissa Bell, Vogel forced set point with her 10th kill and followed with a block to end the match.
Hannah Sipe had 31 assists and two kills and Kenna Burman had 13 digs to lead IU Southeast. Melissa Bell and Joie Porter each had six kills for the Bearcats.
IU Southeast hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods Tuesday at 7 p.m.
