IU Southeast Pulls Away From Ohio Christian 93-78 In RSC Quarterfinals

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – After a slow start, IU Southeast roared past Ohio Christian 93-78 in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Tuesday.

The top-seeded Grenadiers fell behind 16-6 to start the game. Three-point attempts would not fall and they missed layups. Ohio Christian (9-20) was able to take advantage and IU Southeast could not set up its press for much of the first half.

Once the shots started to fall, the tide began to turn as did the increase in Trailblazer turnovers. IU Southeast forced 23 turnovers and scored 27 points off of the miscues.

Jaivaughn Jackson kept IU Southeast in the game with 10 first-half points. The Grenadiers trailed 41-36 at halftime.

The second half was when David Burton took over. He scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the second half and helped spark a 26-5 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach.

Burton was 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range in the second half.

The Grenadiers shot 64 percent in the second half and held Ohio Christian to 38 percent shooting.

Jaivaughn Jackson added 19 points and Anthony Wales Jr. had 11 for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast hosts No. 23 IU East Saturday at 3 p.m.
