Grenadier Bats Lead IU Southeast To Sweep Over Huntington

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Kelsey Warman and Ellie Jackman each hit two home runs as IU Southeast defeated Huntington 14-6 and 10-5 on Friday.

In game one, the Grenadiers took the lead in the bottom of the second when Ashtyn Sharp singled and scored on a single by Lindsey Nelson. Then Ellie Jackman brought in Nelson with a single.

But the Foresters (2-3) answered with three runs in the top of the third. Paige Eichelberger and Jada Crofoot had back-to-back RBI doubles and Jenessa Hasty drew a bases loaded walk.

Kelsey Warman tied the game in the bottom of the inning when she a two-run home run to left for her second home run of the season. Then Nelson doubled to left to score Sharp who had reached on a single to short.

Huntington tied the game in the fourth and took the lead on a Kaela Robey home run to left in the fifth.

The Grenadiers (15-2-1) answered with a nine-run bottom of the fifth to put the game away.

Katie Cook started the scoring when she scored on a wild pitch. Graci Cornett brought in Sharp on a squeeze play. Ellie Jackman followed with a two-run triple. Katie Cook, Maddie Probus each had RBI singles and Kesley Warman had a RBI double. Ashtyn Sharp ended the game by drivning in Warman.

Graci Cornett (3-0) worked one and two-thirds of relief for the win. She allowed one run on one hit.

Ashtyn Sharp was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a RBI. Kesley Warman, Ellie Jackman, Lindsey Nelson and Maggie Lubbehusen each had two hits as IU Southeast scored 14 runs on 15 hits.

In game two, Warman gave the Grenadiers a 2-1 lead with her second two-run home run of the day.

The Grenadiers added another run in the third when Dallas Henderson doubled to right to score Warman.

IU Southeast blew the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Ellie Jackman hit a two-run home run to left. Then Katie Cook hit a RBI single and Warman scored on a wild pitch.

Ellie Jackman hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth and the Grenadiers added another run on a RBI single by Graci Cornett.

Brooklyn Gibbs moved to 7-0 on the season as she allowed five runs, three earned on five while walking three and striking out five.

Ellie Jackman, Dallas Henderson and Lindsey Nelson each had two hits and Jackman drove in three.

IU Southeast hosts IU South Bend Saturday at noon.
