NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The iU Southeast softball team extended its winning streak to 10-straight games with a doubleheader sweep of iU South Bend on Saturday winning 4-2 an 2-1.
After surrendering the first run of the game the Grenadiers bounced back to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Natalie Schapker hit a RBI single to short to score Allison Hayes and Ashtyn Sharp reached on a error and later scored on a passed ball.
The Titans (0-6) tied the game in the fifth when Kaylee Darnell started the rally when she singled and advanced to second a passed ball. She scored on an error by Kelsey Warman.
IU Southeast (17-2-1) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Maddie Probus led off with a walk and Miranda Miller followed with a bunt base hit. After Kaitlyn Flowers moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Warman hit a two-run single to give the Grenadiers the lead.
Hannah Ogg shut down the Titan offense the rest of the way. She got the complete-game win allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out nine.
Game two was a pitcher's duel as the Grenadiers could not break through until the sixth inning. Ashtyn Sharp and Maggie Lubbehusen led off with back-to-back singles and Dallas Henderson came through with a two-run double.
Brooklyn Gibbs (8-0) got the win in the relief. She worked two and thirds innings and allowed one run on three hits and struck out a batter.
Ashtyn Sharp and Dallas Henderson each had two hits in the win.
IU Southeast travels to Spalding University Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
