IU SOUTHEAST FALLS TO MIDWAY TUESDAY

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell in three sets to Midway University 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 on Tuesday.

IU Southeast (10-9, 6-3 RSC) faced an early 5-0 deficit in the first set but used a 5-0 run of their own to tie it up. The Grenadiers saw kills from Maggie Purichia and Vogel on their run. Midway (13-2, 7-2 RSC) answered with a quick 3-0 run and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-17.

Midway jumped out to an early lead in the second set, but a kill from Graves put IU Southeast in front 8-7. The Eagles responded with a 6-0 run to take a 13-8 lead and never trailed again in the set. The Grenadiers rallied with four straight points late, but ultimately fell 25-17.

Graves had four of her seven kills in the second set. Four other Grenadiers added one kill apiece.

The third set was tightly contested to start. IU Southeast jumped out to a quick 5-3 lead, propelled by two consecutive aces from Brandy Eisenback. The two teams went back and forth and found themselves in a stalemate at 14-14. Midway scored the next three points, taking a lead that they never relinquished.

The Grenadiers brought it within two on several occasions but could never pull any closer as Midway took the third and final set 25-21. Six different Grenadiers added at least one kill in the closing set.

Lexie Fisher had 18 digs to lead IU Southeast. Averee Yoder added 12 and Eisenback had 11.   Hannah Brown led the team with 9 assists, and Lexie Fisher had 8. The Grenadiers served up three aces in the match, two from Eisenback and one from Santina Schembra.

IU Southeast hosts Ohio Christian at 7 PM on Friday.
