Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team concluded the home portion of its 2021 schedule with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Asbury University on Senior Night.
Fittingly, it was the quartet of seniors who led the way in the win. Twenty-one of the team's 41 kills came from its four seniors: Jennie Malone and Makendri Fisher each had seven kills, Delaney Nichols had six and Lexie Fisher had one.
Lexie Fisher led the Grenadiers with three aces and 18 digs. Freshman Emilee Organ had a team-high nine kills for IU Southeast.
IU Southeast (15-11) led 14-12 in the first set after a kill by Malone. The Grenadiers scored six of the next nine points to hold a 20-15 advantage which led to an Asbury timeout. Makendri Fisher had two kills and Emilee Organ added another during that run.
An ace by Lexie Fisher forced set point and a kill by Macy Graves won the first set for the Grenadiers.
In the second set, the Grenadiers led 10-6 before pulling away on a 11-5 run. Three-straight kills by Hannah Brown, Graves and Malone sparked the run and it concluded with a pair of kills by Organ and one by Malone.
Three Asbury errors in the final four points of the set sent the period to the Grenadiers. IU Southeast recorded a .324 attack percentage in the set and had 14 kills to three errors.
The third set was evenly-matched throughout. The set was tied at 15 and the Grenadiers finally pulled away with an 8-2 run. Back-to-back kills by Malone and Makendri Fisher gave the Grenadiers a comfortable lead. Two Asbury errors completed the sweep for IU Southeast.
IU Southeast recorded 41 kills to Asbury's 29 and capitalized on 10 service errors by the Eagles.
IU Southeast finished the season with a 9-3 record at home.
The Grenadiers travel to Oakland City Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
