NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked IU Southeast softball team defeated St. Francis 3-0 before falling in the nightcap 6-2 on Tuesday.
In game one, the Grenadiers scored one run in each of the first two innings. In the bottom of the first, Macie Zink led off with a triple to left and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dallas Henderson.
In the second inning, the Grenadiers had runners at second and third with one out. Ellie Jackman singled to right to score Kelsey Warman who had reached on a walk. Madeline Probus was tagged out at the plate to end the threat.
IU Southeast (12-2) tacked on a run in the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Flowers led off with a single and scored on a double by Warman.
Hannah Ogg (7-1) got the five-hit shutout. She struck out six and did not walk a batter. The Saints (5-1) did not have a runner in scoring position until the sixth inning when they had back-to-back singles. Ogg recorded a flyout and a strikeout to end the threat.
Dallas Henderson, Kelsey Warman and Ellie Jackman each drove in runs.
In game two, the Grenadiers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Lindsey Nelson tripled to right to score Madeline Probus.
The Saints took the lead in the sixth inning when Kayla Garcia hit a two-run home run to center for her second home run of the year.
The Grenadiers got the tying run to third in the bottom of the inning when Probus tripled but she was picked off after a failed squeeze play.
The Saints added three more runs in the top of the seventh and the Grenadiers were retired in order to end the game.
Kelsey Warman and Ellie Jackman were each 2-for-3 in the loss.
IU Southeast hosts Judson University Wednesday at 2 p.m.
