Grenadiers Split Doubleheader With Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team defeated Midway 12-0 in five innings before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Grenadiers overpowered the Eagles with three runs in the first and four in the second inning to put the game out of reach.

In the first inning, Brooklyn Gibbs singled and scored on. A RBI double by Ellie Jackman. Kelsey Warman drove in Jackman with a RBI single and she scored on a single by Macie Zink.

In the second, Ginger Funk scored on a single by Jackman. Madeline Probus drove in Brooklyn Gibbs with a single. With runners at second and third, Kelsey Warman scored on a RBI single to center to bring in Jackman and Probus.

Erin Templeman hit her first collegiate home run to left to lead off the third inning.

Madeline Probus singled, advanced to third on a double by Warman and scored on a fielder's choice.

Kaitlyn Flowers led off with fifth with a double and scored on a double by Jackman, who later scored on an error. Then Katie Templeman singled to short and Probus scored.

Hannah Ogg worked four innings for her 20th win of the year. She allowed one hit and struck out four.

Ellie Jackman and Kelsey Warman each had three hits and dorve in three while Probus was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a RBI.

In game two, the Eagles struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Katie Rhodes drew a bases-loaded walk to score Carly Jones and Lauren Lingafelter scored on a passed ball.

The Grenadiers cut the lead in half in the fourth when Lindsey Nelson singled to center to score Probus who had reached on a walk.

IU Southeast (30-12, 10-2 RSC) tied the game in the sixth when Probus singled and scored on a RBI double by Warman.

But the Grenadier offense stalled after that and allow Midway to strike in the seventh for walkoff win. Katie Rhodes singled advanced to second on a bunt and third on the throw. She scored the winning run a wild pitch Brooklyn Gibbs.

Kelsey Warman was 2-for-3 with two doubles in the loss.

IU Southeast hosts Point Park Friday at 1 p.m.
