RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The IU Southeast softball team split a pair of 1-0 games with the University of Rio Grande on Sunday, the Grenadiers won game one with the RedStorm taking the nightcap.
In game one, Brooklyn Gibbs led off with a single and stole second, She scored on a two-out single by Madeline Probus.
That was enough run support for Hannah Ogg who surrendered three hits in seven innings of work while striking out nine for a complete-game shutout.
The RedStorm (36-13, 19-3 RSC) only managed to place on runner in scoring position in the contest and that was after a sacrifice bunt in the first inning when Shelby Schmitt led off with a single. Starter Hannah Ogg retired Taylor Webb on a flyout to right and struck out Kenzie Cremeens to end the inning.
Ogg retired the RedStorm in order in four of the next six innings.
The Grenadiers (37-13, 17-3 RSC) threatened again in the second inning when Kaitlyn Flowers singled and stole second with two outs, but Gibbs struck out to end the inning.
Ogg shut down Rio Grande quickly in the final two innings for her 26th win of the season.
In game two, the Grenadiers fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning when Caitlyn Brisker led off with a home run to center.
IU Southeast got the tying run to second in the sixth when Erin Templeman singled and advanced to second when two Rio Grande defenders collided on a popout from Flowers. Brooklyn Gibbs followed with a popout to left and Miranda Miller struck out to end the inning.
After two strikeouts in the top of the seventh, Kelsey Warman singled but Katie Templeman grounded out to end the game.
Warman was 2-for-3 in the loss. Rio Grande starter Sydney Campolo got the complete game shutout. She allowed five hits and struck out 12.
IU Southeast hosts Asbury Monday at 2:30 p.m.
