VIENNA, W.Va. – The IU Southeast softball team defeated Carlow 8-0 in five innings before falling 6-2 to Rio Grande on Friday in the 2021 River States Conference Softball Championship. IU Southeast will face West Virginia Tech on Saturday in the loser's bracket final with a spot in the championhip game on the line vs Rio Grande.
Against Carlow, Kelsey Warman hit two home runs and drove in four and Erin Templeman had a home run and drove in two.
The Grenadiers (43-13) scored three times in the first inning and four in the second.
In the first inning, Brooklyn Gibbs singled and scored on a home run by Warman. Then Hannah Ogg drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kaitlyn Flowers.
In the second inning, Warman and Templeman each hit two-run home runs to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Grenadiers added another run in the third when Ellie Jackman drove in Lindsey Nelson with a RBI single.
Hannah Ogg allowed two hits in three shutout innings and Gabby Mahoney had two perfect innngs of relief.
Kelsey Warman was 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, Brooklyn Gibbs was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Erin Templeman and Ellie Jackman each had two hits.
IU Southeast set a new program record with their 43rd win of the season.
