Box Score

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Oakland City in three sets 25-19, 33-31, 25-19 on Saturday.

Emilee Organ had 13 kills to lead the team. Jennie Malone and Macy Graves added nine and eight kills, respectively.

After a back and forth start in the first set, the Grenadiers (7-7, 3-1 RSC) jumped out to a 12-9 lead and used a 5-0 run later to extend their lead to 20-14. Malone had three of her nine kills in that 5-0 stretch. Cate Murphy had two aces in the first set and Hannah Brown closed the set for IU Southeast with an ace as well.

The Mighty Oaks (3-8, 1-3 RSC) cut the deficit to 15-14, but that was as close as they would get for the rest of the set as a kill by Malone shifted the momentum in IU Southeast's favor.

Oakland City led for the majority of the second set. Their lead was extended to 17-11 before IU Southeast used a quick 3-0 run to narrow the lead to 17-14. The Mighty Oaks and Grenadiers traded points, as Oakland City took a 20-17 advantage. IU Southeast responded with a 5-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. The 5-0 run saw kills from Malone and Graves and an ace from Lexie Fisher.

The Mighty Oaks jumped out in front 24-23, but the Grenadiers took a 25-24 lead after a kill from Malone and an ace from Averee Yoder. After Oakland City took a 26-25 lead, IU Southeast fought off six straight set points before finishing on a 3-0 run to win the second set 33-31. A kill from Fisher, an ace from Yoder and a kill from Organ gave the set to the Grenadiers.

In the third set, IU Southeast jumped out to a 10-8 lead following an Oakland City service error. The Mighty Oaks would tie it at 10-10 before the Grenadiers went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-10 lead. IU Southeast took advantage of 4 straight errors from Oakland City and capped off the run with another ace from Yoder.

Oakland City would cut the lead to three, but never get any closer as IU Southeast took the third and final set 25-19 to finish the three-set sweep. A kill from Audrey LaMaster and two straight aces from Santina Schembra put the set and the match away.

The Grenadiers recorded 11 aces in the contest, just as they did Friday night. Yoder and Schembra each had three and Murphy added two. Lexie Fisher, Brown and LaMaster each added one ace a piece.

Lexie Fisher had 20 digs to lead the Grenadiers. Schembra had 14 digs and Yoder added 9. Murphy led the team with 24 assists and Brown added 16.
