NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to Campbellsville 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 in the 2021 home opener for the Grenadiers on Tuesday.

Freshman Macy Graves led the Grenadiers with 11 kills while Emilee Organ added seven. Jennie Malone had six kills and two block assists and Alexis Franks added five kills.

Both teams started fast in the opening set. The Grenaiders (2-3) recorded a match-high 15 kills in the opening frame and hit .220 while the Tigers hit .297.

IU Southeast led 18-15 after a service error but the Tigers cut the lead to 19-18 after a kill by Cierra Merrick. Jennie Malone followed with a kill and a Campbellsville attack error extended the Grenadier lead to 21-18.

But a 4-1 run swung the lead back to the Tigers' favor. A block by Alexis Franks tied the set but a kill by Sophie Ball and an error by Santina Schembra ended the first set.

IU Southeast jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the second set as Macy Graves provided the spark with four kills during that run. But Campbellsville battled back with an 9-1 run to take a 17-15 lead. They would never trail again as they closed the frame by scoring eight of the final 12 points.

In the third set, IU Southeast led 15-13 after a service error. But Campbellsville answered with 7-4 run to take the lead. After a service error, a kill by Merrick gave the Tigers match point and an attack error by Franks ended the match.

Brandy Eisenback had 20 assists to lead the Grenadiers and she added 13 digs. Lexie Fisher had a team-high 21 digs for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast will travel to IU East for a three-match tournament on Friday and Saturday.
