Box Score BECKLEY, W.V. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell 77-59 to West Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2022 River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday.
The Grenadiers (14-17) took a 15-12 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half when Glenn Hill scored on a layup.
The Golden Bears (25-4) began to clamp down defensively and slow the Grenadier offense. Glenn Hill hit a jumper with 9:20 left in the half and IU Southeast did not score again until Jared Osborne hit two free throws with 2:39 left. WVU Tech went on a 13-0 run to take a 33-19 lead.
The Golden Bears led 38-25 at halftime. Glenn Hill had 14 points in the half to keep IU Southeast in the game.
IU Southeast got off to a quick start in the second half. The Grenadiers hit three three-point field goals plus a jumper by Hill cut the lead to 40-36 and forced a WVU Tech timeout.
Anthony Wales Jr. and Jared Osborne scored on consecutive layups to tie the game with 16:33 to play as IU Southeast opened the second half on a 14-5 run.
A three-pointer by Gabriel Casillas Cruz and a layup by Ahmad Price extended the lead to 49-44.
The Golden Bears took the lead but had trouble pulling away as Ahmad Price hit a couple shots to keep the Grenadiers close.
But the IU Southeast offense stalled once again and the Golden Bears took advantage, closing the game on a 19-4 run.
Glenn Hill led iU Southeast with 18 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Wales Jr. and Gabriel Casillas Crus each added 12 points and Jared Osborne had nine points and four rebounds in his final collegiate contest.
IU Southeast shot 35 percent from the field but only connected on five three-pointers in the game while WVU Tech hit 12.
