Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a 2-0 and 6-2 sweep of St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Wednesday.
In game one, the Grenadiers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Macie Zink tripled off the wall in center to drive in Brooklyn Gibbs, who had reached on a walk.
Katie Cook followed with a RBI single to make it 2-0 Grenadiers.
The Pomeroys stranded a runner at second after an error and stolen base in the top of the second inning and would not have a runner in scoring position for the remainder of the game.
She allowed two hits in a complete-game shutout win and struck out six while not allowing a walk.
IU Southeast tried to add on in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded, but flyout ended the inning.
Macie Zink was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI in the win.
In game two, the Grenadiers struck first once again in the bottom of the first inning. Brooklyn Gibbs singled to left and scored on an error by the leftfielder Rylee Pender.
The Pomeroys took their first lead of the day in the fourth inning. A single and a walk put runners on first and second and Lyric Krause singled to score Victoria Lee.
Gabby Mahoney came on in relief of Gibbs, who had worked into the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly by Riley Bennett tied the game.
Mahoney was able to get two groundouts to limit the damage and end the inning.
The Grenadiers answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Erin Templeman started the rally with a one-out triple. A single to third by Miranda Miller tied the game.
Then Ellie Jackman and Gibbs drew walks to load the bases. Macie Zink came through once again, the time with a two-run single to give the Grenadiers the lead.
Katie Cook drove in another run on a error.
In the sixth, Jackman doubled to left to drive in Miranda Miller who had reached on a fielder's choice.
Gabby Mahoney worked four innings and allowed one hit and a walk in the win. Gibbs, Zink and Erin Templeman each had two hits in the win.
IU Southeast hosts Carlow University Friday at 2 p.m.
