KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball fell to No. 14 IU Kokomo in three sets on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the RSC Volleyball Championship.
IU Southeast trailed 7-6 in the first set but the Cougars raced away on a 9-2 run to take a 16-8 lead. The Cougars extended the lead ot 22-8 and won the set 25-11.
The Cougars had 14 kills in the first set and capitalized on eight attack errors as well.
In the second set, the set was tied at seven after a kill by
Emilee Organ but the Cougars pulled away again on a 13-2 run.
The Grenadiers recorded 12 kills in the second set to IU Kokomo's 13 but had 11 attack errors which proved to be the difference.
In the third set, IU Southeast trailed 12-7 but cut the lead to 13-11 behind the play of
Ella Brooks, who had three kills during that stretch.
The Cougars answered with a 5-0 run but IU Southeast outscored the Cougars 5-2 to get back into the set.
Emilee Organ had two kills and
Kali Bowie and
Allison Daves added a block along with two other IU Kokomo attack errors.
IU Kokomo closed the match on a 6-0 run to complete the sweep.
Emilee Organ had seven kills in her final collegiate match to lead the Grenadiers alongside
Ella Brooks and
Allison Daves.
Cate Muphy led IU Southeast with 19 assists in her final match and
Lexi Striegel led the Grenadiers with 13 digs in her final start.
