FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Indiana Tech in four sets before defeating Saint Ambrose University in four sets.
IU Southeast rallied in the first set against Indiana Tech to take a 14-13 lead on a kill from
Haley Jaster. The Grenadiers took a 19-17 advantage before Indiana Tech scored three straight points to take a 20-19 lead. The Grenadiers answered to take a 23-22 lead on a
Haley Jaster kill, but Indiana Tech scored three straight points to take the first set 25-23.
The second set saw the teams go back and forth several times. The Grenadiers scored three straight points to take a 16-14 advantage. Indiana Tech took a 19-18 lead before the Grenadiers went on a 6-2 run to take a 24-20 lead. The Grenadiers used a kill from
Emilee Organ to win the set 25-23.
IU Southeast rallied early in set three to tie the set at 9-9. Indiana Tech extended their lead to 15-11, but the Grenadiers cut the Indiana Tech lead to one at 17-16 on a kill from
Emilee Organ. IU Southeast rallied to tie the set up at 20-20, but Indiana Tech responded with four straight points to take a 24-20 lead. IU Southeast cut the lead to 24-22, but Indiana Tech closed the set with a kill to win the third set 25-22.
The fourth set saw the teams tied at 7-7 early, but Indiana Tech used a 9-1 run to take a 16-8 lead. Indiana Tech used that momentum to win the fourth set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
Emilee Organ led the Grenadiers with 16 kills and 13 digs against Indiana Tech.
Ella Brooks finished with 12 kills.
Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with 37 assists. The Grenadiers had three aces in the contest. Jesse Kramer had four blocks and
Haley Jaster had three.
Saint Ambrose led for the majority of the first set against IU Southeast. The Grenadiers were able to cut the lead to one at 17-16 and 18-17, but Saint Ambrose responded to take a 19-17 lead. The Grenadiers tied the game at 19-19 following a kill by
Jessi Kramer and an ace by
Lexi Striegel. With the set tied at 20-20, Saint Ambrose used a 5-1 run to take the first set 25-21.
IU Southeast jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set on a kill by
Ella Brooks. A 3-0 run later in the set gave the Grenadiers a 15-7 lead. The Grenadiers used three kills by three different players and an ace from
Cate Murphy to take a 19-10 advantage.
The Grenadiers took a 23-15 lead, but SAU used a 7-1 run to cut the lead to two at 24-22. A kill from
Emilee Organ stopped the rally and gave the Grenadiers a 25-22 set victory.
The third set saw IU Southeast jump out to a 16-4 lead following a 9-0 run. A kill by
Ella Brooks made it 18-5 Grenadiers. Back-to-back kills by
Jessi Kramer and
Ella Brooks gave IU Southeast a 25-10 third set victory.
Saint Ambrose led 9-7 in the fourth set before IU Southeast used a 6-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. SAU came back to tie it at 14-14 before the Grenadiers used an 8-2 run to take a 22-16 advantage. A kill from
Abby Ruzanka and an attack error by SAU gave IU Southeast a 24-19 lead. SAU cut the advantage to 24-23, but a kill by
Jessi Kramer gave the Grenadiers a 25-23 win, clinching a 3-1 victory over SAU.
Emilee Organ and
Ella Brooks led the Grenadiers with 13 kills apiece.
Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with six aces and 46 assists.
Haley Jaster,
Abby Ruzanka, and
Ella Brooks each had three blocks in the victory.
IU Southeast went 3-1 in the tournament at Indiana Tech over the weekend, bringing their season record to 5-5. The Grenadiers resume RSC play with a trip to IU Kokomo on Friday.
