NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to Rio Grande 100-73 on Saturday.
Rio Grande jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter. The RedStorm was able to extend their advantage to 19-4, but IU Southeast hit back-to-back threes to make it 19-10. Rio Grande led 25-14 at the end of the first.
IU Southeast cut the lead to nine at 25-16, but Rio Grande used a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 14 at 30-16. IU Southeast cut the lead to 10 at 34-24 following a
Makenna Wilson three. Rio Grande hit a three later in the quarter to extend their advantage to 15 at 41-26. The RedStorm led by as many as 20 in the second quarter and led 53-35 at the half.
Rio Grande extended their lead back to 20 four minutes into the third quarter. Trailing 69-46, IU Southeast used an 8-0 run to cut the RedStorm advantage to 69-54. Rio Grande led 71-54 after three quarters.
After a Rio Grande layup made it 73-56, IU Southeast used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 12 at 73-61. With a 75-63 lead, Rio Grande scored six straight to extend their lead to 18 at 81-63. IU Southeast cut the deficit to 15, but Rio Grande pulled away in the final minutes to secure a 100-73 win.
Jesse Ledgerwood led IU Southeast with 16 points and three steals.
Leah Miller had 15 points and a team-high five assists.
Makenna Wilson hit four threes and finished with 12 points.
Linzie Wernert grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
IU Southeast returns to action at 7:00 PM on Wednesday in a home contest against Simmons.
