NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to Point Park 77-71 on Saturday.
IU Southeast took a 5-4 lead in the first quarter on a
Karly Sweeney three-point play. Trailing 7-6, Point Park used a 5-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. Point Park led 18-11 before a
Taylor Treat three cut the deficit to four at 18-14 to end the first quarter.
Point Park took a 25-18 lead two minutes into the second quarter. Trailing 27-18, IU Southeast went on an 11-0 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 29-27. Point Park responded with an 11-0 run of their own to take a 38-29 lead into halftime.
Point Park extended their lead to 46-31 to begin the third quarter. IU Southeast cut the lead to single digits at 48-39 on a
Leah Miller layup. Trailing 53-43, the Grenadiers scored six straight points to narrow the Point Park lead to 53-49. Point Park lead 60-54 after three quarters.
IU Southeast opened the fourth quarter with four straight points to cut the Point Park advantage to 60-58. Leading 63-61, Point Park scored seven straight points to extend their lead to nine at 70-61. IU Southeast answered with seven straight points of their own to cut the Point Park lead back to two at 70-68.
After two Point Park free throws, IU Southeast used a jumper by
Leah Miller to cut the Grenadier deficit back to two. Point Park hit a free throw to go up by three, and after a missed Grenadier shot, hit two more free throws to extend their lead to 75-70. Point Park would go on to win 77-71.
Leah Miller had 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for IU Southeast.
Karly Sweeney had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Makenna Wilson added eight points, and
Jesse Ledgerwood had seven.
IU Southeast returns to action on Tuesday in a road contest against Ohio Christian.
