NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Oakland City in four sets (17-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17) on Tuesday night to improve to 5-2 in RSC play.
Trailing 6-4 in the first set, Oakland City used an 11-0 run to take a 15-6 lead. IU Southeast used a 7-1 run to make it 16-13. Leading 18-15, Oakland City used a 5-1 run to extend their advantage to 23-16. The Mighty Oaks would take the first set 25-17.
Points were traded to open the second set as the teams were tied 10-10. A 6-0 run by IU Southeast made it 16-10. After a point by Oakland City, an 8-0 run gave the Grenadiers a commanding 24-11 lead. IU Southeast would take the second set 25-13.
With the teams tied 7-7 to open the third set, IU Southeast went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 edge. IU Southeast extended their lead to seven at 17-10 and 19-12. IU Southeast took an eight-point lead at 22-14, but a 4-0 surge by Oakland City made it 22-18. IU Southeast took a 24-18 lead and would take the third set 25-20.
IU Southeast doubled up Oakland City to begin the fourth set as the Grenadiers led 12-6 and 14-7. A 4-0 run by the Mighty Oaks made it 14-11. Leading 17-14, IU Southeast scored four straight points to take a 21-14 advantage. IU Southeast would take the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Eric Brian was proud of the resiliency of the team.
"We had a little bit of a slow start but what I like about this team is throughout the season, they've been very resilient," Brian said. "They did a really good job of adjusting after that first set to getting back to playing the way that we know we're capable of, and we got three sets in a row after we corrected."
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with 16 kills.
Haley Jaster had 13 kills and team-high 8.0 blocks.
Carly Mason led the Grenadiers with 20 assists and three aces. Both
Ella Brooks and
Ella Davidson had 12 digs.
Gracie Farmer also had a trio of aces for IU Southeast.
IU Southeast returns to action on Friday for a road contest against Rio Grande.
