COLUMBIA, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell to (RV) Lindsey Wilson 88-78 on Tuesday.
IU Southeast took an 11-6 lead early in the first half on a three by
Caleb Brown. A layup by
Ashton Myles-Devore made it 13-6. After a Lindsey Wilson layup made it 13-8, a three by
Ashton Myles-Devore gave the Grenadiers a 16-8 edge.
IU Southeast took a nine-point lead at 19-10 on a
Richard Lang layup. With the Grenadiers ahead 21-14, Lindsey Wilson scored four straight points to make it 21-18.
Lindsey Wilson cut the lead to one at 23-22, but a layup by
Lane Lauderbaugh and two free throws by
Camden Pfeister made it 27-22 IU Southeast. Lindsey Wilson cut the Grenadier lead back to two at 27-25, but a three by
Caleb Brown gave IU Southeast a 30-25 advantage.
Back-to-back layups by IU Southeast later in the half gave the Grenadiers a 36-29 lead. A three by
Ashton Myles-Devore sent IU Southeast into halftime with a 39-33 lead.
A three to open the second half by Lindsey Wilson cut the Grenadier lead to three, but back-to-back layups by IU Southeast extended their advantage to 43-36.
Lindsey Wilson responded by completely flipping the game in their favor, outscoring IU Southeast 19-2 over the following six minutes to take a 55-45 lead.
Lindsey Wilson extended their lead to 63-50 with 10:23 remaining. A 6-0 IU Southeast run made it 63-56, but a jumper by Lindsey Wilson made it 65-56.
Tevi Ali hit a three to cut the Grenadier deficit to six, but the Blue Raiders hit three of four free throws to extend their advantage back to nine at 68-59.
The Grenadiers kept fighting, as back-to-back jumpers cut the Blue Raider lead to five at 68-63. After a Lindsey Wilson layup made it 70-63, five straight points by IU Southeast cut the Grenadier deficit to two at 70-68 with 5:44 left.
Four straight Lindsey Wilson points made it 74-68, but a three by
Ashton Myles-Devore cut the Blue Raider lead to 74-71. Lindsey Wilson answered with a three-point play to extend their advantage back to six at 77-71.
An
Eli Meyer tip-in made it 77-73, but the Blue Raiders rattled off eight straight points to extend their advantage to 85-73. Lindsey Wilson would go on to win 88-78.
"We deserved to win that game, but it's hard to win when one team shoots 31 free throws and the other shot 8," IU Southeast head coach
Wiley Brown said. "We played hard and just couldn't finish the game. I believe in what don't kill you will make you stronger. I love this team. We will keep grinding and staying together. This is a very close team, and they love each other."
Ashton Myles-Devore led IU Southeast with 17 points on 7-10 shooting.
Lane Lauderbaugh had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Tevi Ali had 10 points off the bench, and
Eli Meyer added nine points.
Ethan Haddaway had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Camden Pfeister had a team-high six assists.
IU Southeast returns to action on Dec. 7 to kick off conference play with a home contest against IU Kokomo.
