IU Southeast Cruises to 79-40 Victory over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg

HARRODSBURG, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team cruised to a 79-40 victory over CU Harrodsburg on Tuesday.
 
IU Southeast used an early 5-0 run in the first quarter to take a 5-2 lead. CU Harrodsburg tied the game with a three, but four straight IU Southeast points made it 9-5. With a 9-8 lead, IU Southeast closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 15-8.
 
CU Harrodsburg hit a jumper to open the second quarter, but the Grenadiers used back-to-back baskets to take a 19-10 lead. After a layup by the Pioneers, IU Southeast scored 14 straight points to take a 33-12 lead. IU Southeast led 40-18 at the half.
 
IU Southeast extended their lead to 26 at 44-18 to open the third quarter. The Grenadiers took a 47-20 lead on a Makenna Wilson three. CU Harrodsburg scored seven straight points, but IU Southeast answered with five points of their own to take a 52-27 lead.
 
A 12-0 run later in the third quarter gave IU Southeast a 62-28 lead. IU Southeast led 64-30 after three quarters.
 
IU Southeast led by as many as 39 points in the fourth quarter and would go on to win 79-40.
 
"Good to get a road win tonight," IU Southeast interim head coach Derek Sims said. "Everyone played hard and got better. We played very unselfish. I know we can shoot better. We had open shots and open opportunities. We'll have to convert those in order to be successful Thursday at home against Taylor."
 
Grace Stapleton led IU Southeast with 15 points and five assists. Karly Sweeney had 12 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Ella Brown had 11 points, and Jesse Ledgerwood had 10. Taylor Treat had eight points and a team-high seven steals. Makenna Wilson also added eight points. Carley Higgins had seven points and nine rebounds. Linzie Wernert added a team-high 11 rebounds, and Lexi Starr had four steals.
 
IU Southeast returns to action on Thursday for a home contest against Taylor.
