Grenadiers Fall to Campbellsville on Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The IU Southeast softball team closed out their five-game trip to Georgia with a 15-7 loss to Campbellsville in six innings on Sunday.
 
IU Southeast jumped on the board early. McKenzie Walters led off the game with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. Autumn Oehlstrom followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead.
 
After a hit by pitch and a steal of second base, Campbellsville used a single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
 
In the top of the third, McKenzie Walters singled with one out for IU Southeast. After Walters advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, Autumn Oehlstrom hit a two-run home run to give IU Southeast a 3-1 lead.
 
IU Southeast added to their lead in the fourth. Macie Zink led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After pinch hitter Savannah Gaither drew a walk, Issy Wright roped a double into the left center field gap to drive in two runs and give IU Southeast a 5-1 lead. McKenzie Walters followed with an RBI double that evaded the glove of the Campbellsville third baseman to give the Grenadiers a 6-1 edge.
 
Campbellsville's offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs. Campbellsville followed with a 2-RBI double that barely missed the outstretched glove of center fielder Katie Templeman. A walk loaded the bases with no outs once more.
 
After starter Maci Warner was replaced by Hallie Foley, Campbellsville made it 6-4 on a wild pitch. A flyout gave the Grenadiers one out, but the Tigers answered with a 2-RBI single to tie the game at 6-6.
 
Campbellsville followed with a single and a double to take an 8-6 lead. Campbellsville forced another pitching change by IU Southeast and loaded the bases once more, but Hannah Nunemaker retired the next two batters to keep the score 8-6.
 
IU Southeast threatened in the top of the fifth. Erin Templeman singled and Macie Zink doubled off the wall to give the Grenadiers runners at second and third with one out, but Campbellsville used a strikeout and a groundout to get out of the jam.
 
Campbellsville scored two more runs in the fifth to make it 10-6. IU Southeast used an Issy Wright double and a McKenzie Walters single to cut the lead to 10-7 in the top of the sixth, but Campbellsville responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 15-7.
 
McKenzie Walters went 4-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for IU Southeast. Autumn Oehlstrom had a home run and three RBIs, and Issy Wright had two doubles and two RBIs. Macie Zink also had two hits for IU Southeast.
 
IU Southeast returns to action in a doubleheader at #14 Indiana Wesleyan on Friday.
