NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team hit 17 threes to tie the program record for threes made in a game in a 106-36 win over Miami-Middletown. The team's lone senior,
Leah Miller, was honored in a ceremony before the game.
With a 6-4 lead early in the first quarter, IU Southeast used a 7-0 run to take a 13-4 lead. A
Karly Sweeney layup gave the Grenadiers a double-digit advantage at 17-6.
Grace Stapleton hit a three at the first quarter buzzer to give IU Southeast a 22-8 lead.
The Grenadiers used a
Karly Sweeney three to give IU Southeast a 25-8 advantage. Miami-Middletown hit back-to-back baskets to make it 25-12, but the Grenadiers scored seven straight points to take a 32-12 lead.
IU Southeast led 52-20 at the half. The Grenadiers outscored Miami-Middletown 28-8 in the third quarter and 26-8 in the fourth quarter en route to a 106-36 victory.
Every Grenadier scored in the contest.
Grace Stapleton led IU Southeast with a career-high 20 points, including going 6-9 from three. Senior
Leah Miller had 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Jesse Ledgerwood and
Linzie Wernert also had 16 points apiece.
Karly Sweeney had 13 points and
Makenna Wilson added 10.
Lexi Starr had seven points and seven rebounds.
Katie Durbin had six points and seven rebounds, and
Taylor Treat added two points, five rebounds, and four assists.
IU Southeast shot 55.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from long distance. The 17 made threes tied the program record for most made threes by a team in a single game.
The Grenadiers finish the regular season 13-14 overall and 8-10 in RSC play. They will host IU East in the First Round of the RSC Women's Basketball Championship Monday at 5:30 p.m.
