NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team defeated Ohio Christian 16-1 to complete a three-game sweep on Monday.
IU Southeast scored six runs in the bottom of the first to put the game out of reach early.
The Grenadiers scored two runs on wild pitches and one on a walk.
Colin Long drove in
Ethan Burdette with a RBI groundout and
Slater Schield capped off the rally with a two-run single, scoring
Grant Shepherd and
Max Flock.
In the second,
Ethan Burdette singled to score
Luke Powell and a RBI double by Flock drove in Burdette.
IU Southeast added a pair of runs on balks in the third inning. An RBI groundout by Powell added another run to extend the lead to 11-1.
In the fifth,
Mason White scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kody Putnam. After
Konnor Scheidt was hit by a pitch, he came around to score on a RBI double by Burdette.
Burdette would later score on a wild pitch.
In the sixth,
Brandon Gibson reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners and Scheidt singled to drive in
Coulter Hamilton who had doubled.
After
Alex Yurt walked to load the bases,
Trevor Goodwin singled to score Gibson.
Starter
Tyler Yotkewich worked four innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on two hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Mason White scored three times,
Trevor Goodwin and
Ethan Burdette each had two hits and Burdette, Flock and Schield each drove in two.
IU Southeast hosts Campbellsville Wednesday at 5 p.m.
