MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Southeast baseball team continued its offensive barrage and stellar pitching attack to defeat Midway 16-3 and 5-2 for a three-game sweep on Saturday.
In game one, IU Southeast jumped out to a quick lead with three runs in the top of the first.
Slater Schield was hit by a pitch and
Mason White walked,
Kody Putnam drove in Schield with a RBI sginle and
Max Flock drove in White with a RBI single. A throwing error allowed Putnam to score.
Max Flock hit a two-run home run in the top of the third to extend the lead to 5-1.
In the fourth, an RBI single by Putnam and a RBI groundout by Flock made it 7-1 IU Southeast.
Max Flock led off the seventh with a solo home run to right-center to add to the margin.
A seven-run eighth inning capped off the game for the Grenadiers.
Max Flock came through again, this time with a RBI single to score Putnam who had reached on a walk.
Two wild pitches and a throwing error scored three more runs and a three-run home run by
Mason White was the exclamation point.
Starter
Connor Sims worked six innings and allowed a run on two hits. He walked three and struck out eight.
Brendan Koester struck out the side in the eighth to end the game for IU Southeast.
Max Flock finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and six RBI in the game.
Slater Schield was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Mason White was 3-fo-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. He reached base five times.
Kody Putnam scored three times, had two hits and two RBI and
Ethan Burdette had two hits.
In game two, IU Southeast trailed 2-0 before cutting the lead in half in the top of the third when Mikai Stoner doubled and scored on a RBI double by
Slater Schield.
In the fourth,
Ethan Burdette singled to score
Luke Powell and then consecutive bases-loaded walks to
Logan Murphy and
Trevor Goodwin drove in Putnam and Burdette.
In the fifth, Murphy was hit which allowed Powell to score.
Starter
Tyler Yotkewich worked five innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out seven.
Kasey Cheek and Garrett worked scoreless innings with Hill earning his fourth save.
Slater Schield and
Kody Putnam each had two hits in the win.
