KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team defeated IU Kokomo 11-6 in the final game of the three-game series on Sunday.
 
The Grenadiers loaded the bases with three straight walks to open the top of the first. A two-RBI double by Kody Putnam gave the Grenadiers a 2-0 lead. With one out, Logan Murphy connected on a three-run home run to give IU Southeast a 5-0 lead in the first.
 
In the top of the second, IU Southeast loaded the bases with no outs once more. A sacrifice fly by Kody Putnam gave the Grenadiers a 6-0 advantage. A throwing error allowed IU Southeast to take a 7-0 lead.
 
IU Kokomo scored two runs in the bottom of the second to cut the Grenadier lead to 7-2. The Cougars added another run in the bottom of the third to make it 7-3.
 
Slater Schield led off the top of the fifth with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. Grant Shepherd followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3 Grenadiers.
 
A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth by IU Kokomo made it 8-4.
 
A one-out double in the top of the sixth by Max Flock gave IU Southeast a runner in scoring position. Logan Murphy followed with an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 9-4 lead. An error allowed another Grenadier run to score to make it 10-4.
 
A two-out RBI single by Kody Putnam in the top of the seventh allowed IU Southeast to take an 11-4 lead.
 
IU Kokomo added a run in the eighth and the ninth, but IU Southeast would secure an 11-6 win.
 
Kacey Cheek started for IU Southeast, throwing 2.2 innings. Connor Sims followed with 1.1 innings of work. Conner Fries got the win after throwing 2 scoreless innings. Cade Reynolds, Zak Rasener, Gavin Knust, and Luke Powell combined to throw the final three innings.
 
Logan Murphy led IU Southeast with three hits and tied for the team lead with four RBIs. Kody Putnam drove in four runs on two hits. Six different Grenadiers had an extra base hit, including a home run by Murphy.
 
IU Southeast (25-14, 17-4 RSC) returns to action for a home contest against Georgetown on Tuesday.
