IU Southeast Falls to IU East 78-70

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell to IU East 78-70 on Thursday.
 
The game was evenly matched through the first six minutes, with IU East holding a narrow 10-8 lead. The Grenadiers followed with a 5-0 run to take a 13-10 edge. IU East answered with a 10-2 run to take a 20-15 advantage.
 
Trailing 24-18, the Grenadiers used a free throw by Ethan Haddaway and a three by Lane Lauderbaugh to cut the IU East lead to two at 24-22. IU East responded with back-to-back threes to make it 30-22.
 
Five straight points by Trent Hinkle cut the IU East lead to three at 30-27, but the Red Wolves extended their lead to eight at 37-29. The Grenadiers fought back to cut the lead to three at 38-35.
 
After a layup by IU East made it 40-35, IU Southeast closed the half on a 6-0 run to go into the half with a 41-40 lead.
 
IU Southeast opened the second half with a layup by Caleb Brown to take a 43-40 lead. IU East followed with a 7-2 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 47-45. IU East took a 51-47 lead on a three and a free throw.
 
The Grenadiers used a 5-0 run to take a 52-51 edge. IU Southeast used a layup by Camden Pfeister to take a 55-53 lead, but IU East responded with eight straight points to take a 61-55 advantage.
 
IU East hit a three to take a nine-point lead with 4:15 remaining. A 7-0 run by IU Southeast cut the IU East lead to two at 68-66 with 2:37 left, but a three by IU East gave the Red Wolves a 71-66 lead with 2:20 remaining.
 
IU East's lead never dropped below five for the rest of the game as the Red Wolves would go on to win 78-70.
 
"Unforced turnovers and rebounding," IU Southeast head coach Wiley Brown said. "Lack of concentration on underneath out of bounds. Leaving shooters open. Back to the lab. Disappointed!"
 
Trent Hinkle led IU Southeast with 21 points, four assists, and three steals. Lane Lauderbaugh had 19 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Ethan Haddaway had six points and seven rebounds. Camden Pfeister had six points and a team-high nine rebounds. Eli Meyer had six points and tied for the team lead with three steals. Xavier Price also added six points.
 
IU Southeast (9-11, 4-5 RSC) returns to action on Saturday for a home contest against Midway.
