WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to No. 19 Cumberlands 87-56 on Tuesday.
Cumberlands started the game on an 11-0 run, but IU Southeast used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 13-9. Cumberlands answered with eight straight points to make it 21-9. The Patriots led 28-15 at the end of the first quarter.
IU Southeast cut the Cumberlands lead to six at 33-27 four minutes into the second quarter. After a three by Cumberlands, back-to-back threes by IU Southeast made it a three-point game at 36-33. Cumberlands closed the half on a 9-2 run to lead 45-35 at the half.
Cumberlands opened the third quarter on a 12-3 run to extend their advantage to 57-38. The Patriots led 67-42 at the end of three.
Cumberlands led by as many as 33 in the fourth quarter and would cruise to an 87-56 victory.
Morgan Roberts led IU Southeast with a career high 24 points.
Jesse Ledgerwood and
Linzie Wernert each had 10 points.
Ella Brown added seven points, five rebounds, and five assists.
"Disappointed in our overall performance tonight," IU Southeast head coach Abby Downard said. "Had some people come off the bench and give us great minutes but we did not play Grenadier women's basketball tonight."
IU Southeast falls to 2-5 on the year. The Grenadiers return to action on Saturday for a road contest against No. 4 Marian.
