CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Bethel 83-69 on Saturday.
Bethel took an 11-7 lead halfway through the first quarter. The Grenadiers took their first lead of the quarter at 14-13. Bethel took a 15-14 lead, but a three by the Grenadiers gave IU Southeast a 17-15 advantage. Bethel closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead into the second quarter.
Bethel extended their lead to eight at 27-19 to open the second quarter. The Grenadiers cut the lead to four, but a 7-0 run gave Bethel a 34-23 lead. Bethel took a 38-29 advantage into the half.
Bethel led 46-39 halfway through the third quarter. Leading 48-41, Bethel used a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 61-44. The Wildcats led 61-46 at the end of three quarters.
Bethel extended their lead to 24 in the fourth quarter at 77-53. The Grenadiers were able to cut the lead to 14, but it was Bethel who secured an 83-69 win.
IU Southeast was led in scoring by
Jesse Ledgerwood, who scored 22 points.
Linzie Wernert recorded another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Grace Stapleton added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Skyler Mills led the Grenadiers with five assists.
"Really proud of our fight tonight," IU Southeast head coach Abby Downard said. "We battled for 40 minutes against a really solid basketball team. We are going to continue to get better and develop where we need to, but I'm really proud of how we competed tonight. Excited for the continued growth of this team."
IU Southeast moves to 2-2 on the season. The Grenadiers return to action for an exhibition against Miami (OH) on Thursday.
