Lauderbaugh Scores 40 as IU Southeast Stuns Top Seeded Shawnee State in RSC Quarterfinals

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The fourth-seeded IU Southeast men's basketball team used 40 points from Lane Lauderbaugh to upset the top-seeded Shawnee State 95-92 in overtime in the RSC Quarterfinals.
 
Shawnee State jumped out to a 12-4 lead early, but IU Southeast used a 12-0 run to take a 16-12 edge. Shawnee State used a 7-0 run later in the half to take a 23-20 lead.
 
A three by Shawnee State gave the Bears a 31-26 lead. Another three put the Bears up 34-27. IU Southeast cut the lead to two at 38-36, but another 7-0 Shawnee State run extended their lead to 45-36.
 
Shawnee State led 47-39 at the half.
 
The Bears extended their lead to double digits at 52-41 to open the second half, but IU Southeast used an 11-0 run to tie the game at 52-52.
 
Shawnee State took a 56-52 lead, but back-to-back threes by Lane Lauderbaugh put IU Southeast ahead 58-56. Shawnee State tied the game at 58-58, but three free throws by Lane Lauderbaugh and a three by Caleb Brown gave the Grenadiers a 64-58 advantage.
 
With IU Southeast ahead 66-61, Shawnee State scored six straight points to jump in front 67-66. A 5-0 run later in the half put the Grenadiers ahead 73-69.
 
After a Shawnee State basket made it 73-71, IU Southeast used a 5-0 run to extend their advantage to 78-71 with 3:43 left.
 
IU Southeast used back-to-back baskets to take an 82-73 lead with 1:51 remaining. After exchanging free throws, the Grenadiers led 84-75 with 1:11 left.
 
Shawnee State hit a three to make it 84-78, and after an IU Southeast turnover, Shawnee State connected on a four-point play to cut the Grenadier lead to two at 84-82 with 27 seconds left.
 
IU Southeast turned it over again, and Shawnee State hit a layup to send the game into overtime tied at 82-82.
 
IU Southeast opened the overtime period with a layup by Trent Hinkle and a three by Nathaniel Hoffman to jump ahead 87-82. Two minutes into the period, IU Southeast led 90-85.
 
Shawnee State connected on a pair of free throws to make it 90-87. IU Southeast used a free throw by Lane Lauderbaugh and a layup by Ethan Haddaway to take a 93-87 lead with 1:55 left.
 
A three by Shawnee State made it 93-90, but IU Southeast responded with a layup by Lane Lauderbaugh to put the Grenadiers ahead 95-90 with 1:15 left.

Shawnee State hit a layup with less than a minute left, and after a missed three by IU Southeast, the Bears got the ball back. Shawnee State had two three-point attempts to tie, but both came up empty as IU Southeast secured the 95-92 upset win.
 
"We went into enemy territory and came out with a big-time win," IU Southeast head coach Wiley Brown said. "Lane carried us on his back and said we are not losing tonight. He is capable of doing that every night. I have to give my son (Caleb) his flowers. He hit some big shots and played great defense. We had a great game plan, and they carried it out perfectly. It's amazing what they can accomplish as a team by staying focused on every possession and staying in the moment. I am proud of them, but our work is not done. Back to the lab!"
 
IU Southeast was led by Lane Lauderbaugh, who scored a career-high 40 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to secure a double-double. Lauderbaugh shot 14-18 from the field, went 4-5 from three, and 8-9 from the free throw line. Nathaniel Hoffman scored 13 points off the bench, and Ethan Haddaway had 12 points and six rebounds. Trent Hinkle had 11 points, 12 assists, and six rebounds.
 
IU Southeast will travel to IU Kokomo on Saturday for the RSC Conference Tournament Semifinals.
