NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The 16
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team swept a doubleheader against (RV) Indiana Tech on Tuesday.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. A wild pitch gave IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth. A passed ball allowed another run to score to make it 2-0 Grenadiers. An RBI single by
Jack Ellis made it 3-0.
An RBI single by
Ethan Burdette in the sixth gave IU Southeast a 4-0 lead, which would be the final score in seven innings.
Ethan Burdette and
Hazel Martinez each had two hits. Martinez had the lone extra base hit for IU Southeast, a double.
Cole Reynolds stole a base in the win.
Eli Laurent got the start and the win for IU Southeast, allowing just four hits in five scoreless innings.
Luke Shelton and
Nick Pazos both threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Indiana Tech took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two.
An RBI single by
Logan Beard in the first made it 4-1.
Indiana Tech added another run in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Trevor Goodwin connected on a three-run home run in the third to make it 5-4. An RBI double by
Colin Long tied the game at 5-5.
An RBI double by
Logan Beard in the fourth gave IU Southeast their first lead at 6-5.
Indiana Tech tied the game in the fifth at 6-6.
A balk gave the Grenadiers a 7-6 lead in the fifth. An RBI single by
Trevor Goodwin in the sixth put IU Southeast ahead 8-6. An RBI double by
Colin Long made it 9-6, and a sacrifice fly by
Masen Moravec gave IU Southeast a 10-6 lead.
IU Southeast would win game two 10-6 in seven innings.
Six different Grenadiers had two hits.
Trevor Goodwin led with three RBI.
Colin Long doubled twice, and
Logan Beard and
Ethan Burdette doubled once.
Nolan Bowser tripled, and
Trevor Goodwin hit a home run.
Grant Shepherd stole two bases, and Burdette stole one.
Travis Kellems got the start for IU Southeast, throwing three innings.
Daly Skees came in for 1.1 innings in relief.
Zak Rasener got the win after throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.
Nick Pazos followed for his second scoreless inning of the day.
"Good DH sweep today," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "Didn't play the cleanest defense at times but the pitching did a really good job in game one and the offense executed well in game two."
No. 16 IU Southeast (15-6) plays a single nine inning game against Indiana Tech on Wednesday.
