NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The 16
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team completed their sweep of (RV) Indiana Tech with a 9-3 win on Wednesday.
IU Southeast took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-RBI double by
Preston Shelton. Another run came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Alex Schuler. An RBI single by
Coulter Hamilton made it 4-0.
Indiana Tech got a run back in the second to make it 4-1.
A two-RBI double by
Trevor Goodwin in the second gave IU Southeast a 6-1 lead.
An RBI single by
Trenten Creek in the fifth put the Grenadiers ahead 7-1.
Indiana Tech loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but the Warriors were only able to score one run to make it 7-2.
A sacrifice fly by
Trevor Goodwin in the sixth made it 8-2 IU Southeast.
Indiana Tech scored a run in the eighth to make it 8-3.
An error in the eighth allowed IU Southeast to score a run to make it 9-3, which would be the final score.
"Good start to a tough stretch with six games in four days," IU Southeast head coach
Brett Neffendorf said. "Getting the opportunity to give everyone much needed at bats and innings while getting a sweep will play off down the stretch."
Coulter Hamilton led IU Southeast with three hits.
Trevor Goodwin had a game-high three RBI.
Gabe Yonto,
Preston Shelton, and
Trevor Goodwin all doubled.
Kannon Stull stole two bases, and
Joel Johnson,
Gabe Yonto,
Preston Shelton, and
Konnor Scheidt each stole one.
Gavin Sebby got the start, allowing just one unearned run in three innings.
Aiden Darlage got the win, throwing two perfect innings.
Hunter Niksch threw the sixth, and
Conner Christopher V threw a scoreless seventh.
Carson Chandler threw the eighth, and
Jackson Grissom threw a scoreless ninth to secure the 9-3 win.
No. 16 IU Southeast starts a conference series at IU Columbus on Thursday.
